L’autre jour, mes élèves et moi on en avait tous marre de parler de recherche, alors on a commendé plein de pizzas et on les a fait délivrer dans notre classe pour les manger au lieu de bosser! La petite discussion qu’on a eue pour savoir quelle était la pizzeria la moins chère, à combien on estimait notre total pour 25 élèves plus une prof si on voulait au moins deux parts chacun, et par conséquence combien chaque personne devait payer de sa poche pour participer non seulement au total mais en plus aux taxes, aux frais de « delivery, » et au « tip » (pourboire), a été bien rigolote… et quand le soir-même j’ai reçu ce message de mon amie Judy, j’ai vraiment rigolé!

Ou pleuré, je ne sais pas…

Alors voilà l’histoire de l’enseignement des maths aux Etats Unis. Je dois la raconter en anglais sinon c’est pas drôle mais voilà la traductions de quelques mots difficiles: un « logger » c’est à peu près un bucheron. Le « lumber » c’est le bois. Donc c’est l’histoire d’un bûcheron qui vend un camion plein de bois pour 100 dollars. Le problème de math typique.

A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of $20. What do you think of this way of making a living? How did the birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes? (There are no wrong answers.)
